Tube Strikes in London: How They Affect Bromley Traffic & Our Cleaning Appointments

The London Underground has been hit by major strike action this week, leaving the city at a standstill and creating significant disruption for commuters across Greater London, including here in Bromley.

Why Are Tube Workers on Strike?

Around 10,000 members of the RMT union began industrial action on Sunday evening (7 September). The main reasons are:

  • Demands to reduce working hours below the current 35–36 per week.

  • Pay negotiations, with Transport for London (TfL) offering a 3.4% pay rise.

  • Fatigue and staff shortages, with workers citing long and difficult shifts.

Talks between the RMT and TfL have stalled, meaning disruption is expected throughout the week.

How the Strike Impacts Bromley

Although Bromley itself doesn’t have a Tube station, the strike still causes major knock-on effects:

  • Heavier road traffic as thousands of Londoners drive or take taxis instead.

  • Overloaded buses and National Rail services—many Bromley residents rely on Southeastern trains and buses to connect into London, which are now running at full capacity.

  • Longer travel times on key routes into the city and surrounding boroughs.

  • Surge pricing on ride-hailing apps like Uber, adding costs and delays.

This extra congestion directly affects journeys in and out of Bromley, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

What It Means for Cleaners2Match Clients

At Cleaners2Match, we always aim to arrive on time and fully prepared for every appointment. However, during the Tube strike week, road congestion in Bromley and surrounding areas has occasionally caused:

  • Minor delays to arrival times.

  • Longer travel between appointments.

  • Increased demand on our scheduling team to reroute and manage timings.

What we’re doing:

  • Adding extra buffer time into our schedules.

  • Keeping clients updated via our Client HUB and SMS alerts.

  • Ensuring any delays are kept to a minimum while maintaining our cleaning quality.

We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding while London adjusts to this disruption.

Looking Ahead

The strike is expected to continue until the end of the week, with rolling closures on Tube lines and even the Docklands Light Railway. While we hope for a quick resolution between the RMT and TfL, we’ll continue to keep you informed and minimise any inconvenience to your cleaning service.
